ABOUNU COMMENDS OHCSF FOR SUPPORTING BENUE FLOOD VICTIMS

The Benue State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu has commended the gesture of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for donating some relief materials to support the flood victims in the state, saying it will go a long way to alleviate their suffering.

Engr. Abounu made the commendation in Markurdi recently while receiving some relief materials from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita at the warehouse of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

The Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairman of Flood Management Committee, promised that the relief materials would be sent to the right beneficiaries, adding that the State Government has already started resettlement of the victims.

He thanked the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita and her team for her support and solidarity with the people of the state over the recent flooding and expressed the desire of the State Government to partner with her office and the Federal Civil Service Commission in addressing issues of common concern to them such as the enlistment of Benue indigenes into the Federal Civil Service.

Engr. Abounu observed that Benue State is under represented at the national level despite the federal character policy of government and called on the Head of Service of the Federation and the Federal Civil Service Commission to consider their employment and help relieve the state of the trauma of dealing with a restive, unemployed youth population.

Earlier, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita said, they were in the state to commiserate with people of the state over the recent flood disaster and to formally handover the relief materials to the State Emergency Management Agency.

Oyo-Ita who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arch. Sunday Echono commended the quick and matured manner the State Government handled the flood disaster as well as other matters of state and called for continuous support to the government.

Among the items donated to SEMA were bags of rice, semovita and wrappers.
