FG INAUGURATES THE BOARD OF THE ADMINSTRATIVE STAFF COLLEGE OF NIGERIA (ASCON)

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), to pilot the affairs of ASCON for service delivery.

The inauguration took place in Abuja on Thursday, 8th March 2018. Mrs. Oyo-Ita congratulated them for the appointment, noting: “Your appointment is a clear testimony of the remarkable contributions you have been making, individually and collectively to the development of our great country.”

The Head of Service also used the occasion to intimate the board members with the objectives of establishment of ASCON as an institution to develop manpower for the public service.

She said ASCON was established by Decree No. 39 of 1973 as the principal organ for sustainable capacity building in both public and private sectors of the Nigeria economy. She further said the primary objectives of the institution is to provide higher management training for the development of senior executives for the public and private sectors of the Nigeria economy. It is also to provide and arrange for a comparative study and investigation of the principles and techniques of management and administration.

Mrs. Oyo-Ita tasked the Board to work towards the Federal Government Change Agenda in the area of human capital development.  She said: “Your role as Board Members of ASCON is to provide the much needed direction in supporting the vision of this Administration of institutional and human capacity development among others through effective training and re-training of public servants.”

Responding on behalf of the Board, the Chairman, Honorable Nduka Anyanwu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for giving them the opportunity to serve, and promised to put in their best to justify the confidence Mr. President reposed in them.
