HOS CHARGES JNPSNC-TUS ON INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS APPROACH

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR, has charged the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council-Trade Union Side (JNPSNC-TUS) on the need to exercise caution when deliberating on issues of common interest. She gave this charge during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the JNPSNC-TUS led by its Chairman Comrade Anthony Benjamin on Thursday 10th November, 2022 in Abuja.

Dr. Folasade stated that the era of Union making demands only, without bringing anything to the table is over. She encouraged Unions of each organisations represented, to ensure that they add value to the system, as the relationship of Unions and organisations in the modern time has gone beyond parasitic to symbiotic relationship, "it should be give and take", she added.

She further said that Civil Service is no longer business as usual, where staff see the yearly training programme aimed at enhancing productivity as a welfare package with less interest on the impact of the training, which is one of the key pillars of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation plan 2021-2025 (FCSSIP).

The Head of Service of the Federation, who gave sincere responses to the myriad of issues tabled before her by the Union leadership also encouraged the Union to seek clarifications to issues as soon as it occurs without delay, insisting that the Directors and Permanent Secretary in charge of Service Welfare have every information at their disposal.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Anthony Benjamin briefed the Head of Service on the purpose of their visit which included but not limited to; improved welfare package for the Nigeria workers, Promotion Arrears, Circular for already approved leaves in the Service among others.

Comrade Benjamin added that the JNPSNC-TUS has the primary responsibility to serve as interface between the Government and Trade Union and also to critically examine matters bothering on welfare and condition of service with a view to strengthening the performance of workers.

Appreciating the Head of Service for her efforts in strengthening the system, the leadership of JNPSNC-TUS appealed to her to help the workers who are already relying on her for an improved salary package considering the high cost of things in the market.

It would be recalled that, the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council-Trade Union Side (JNPSNC-TUS) is made up of eight Unions representing different professions namely; Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU), Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial, Secretarial, Data Processors and Allied Workers, Amalgamated Union of Public Service (AUPCTRE), Nigeria Union of Agriculture of Allied Employees (NUAAE), National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives ((NANNM),  Medical Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) and Nigeria Union of Printing, Publishing and Paper Products Workers (NUPPPPROW).
