Head of the Civil Service of the Federation

OLUMUYIWA ENITAN ABEL

Born December 12, 1966 in Ibadan, he hails from Osun State. Mr Abel holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos and a Master’s in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

He started work as Accountant II at the Staff Development Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State in 1989. From there, he moved to the defunct Commerce Bank between 1990 and 1998, with core functions including export credit delivery and documentation, as well as risk management in addition to serving as Executive Assistant to the Managing Director/CEO of the bank.

Mr Abel joined the Federal Service in 1998 as Senior Operations Officer at the discontinued Family Economic Advancement Programme (FEAP) in the Presidency. While in the Presidency, he also worked in the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Women Affairs and was also at the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) between 2001 and 2009. He served as Technical Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the programme, among others.

Mr. Abel also worked at the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs before his posting to the Office of the Vice President in the State House as Chief Administrative Officer in 2010. A recipient of the State House Award for Outstanding Performance in 2010, he rose to become a Director in 2017, coordinating administrative matters relating to the Office.

Mr Abel was appointed Permanent Secretary in December 2018 and was posted to the Federal Civil Service Commission. He was also the Chief Bureaucract in the Federal Ministries of Environment, Aviation, Police Affairs, and Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. He was until this appointment as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
