The Legal Department derives its mandate and functions directly from the creation of Office of the Honorable
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who is the Chief Law Officer of the Government
through the Constitutional provision as enshrined in Sections 150 and 174 (1) and (2) of the 1999
Constitution as Amended.
Its mandate is to uphold the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, represent and defend Government
within and outside the country. It is in the exercise of this power, that Law Officers are posted to the Legal
Services of the OHCSF and all Ministries.
