Mr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe hails from Edo State. He holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Benin and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the same University.
Mr. Umakhihe has over Thirty-One (31) years of working experience in Accounting and Auditing functions in the public Service. He started his professional career in 1998 as an accountant with the National Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR). He rose to the position of Director Finance and Accounts in 2007.
He transferred his services to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation in 2012. He served as Deputy Director, Audit Monitoring Department.
In 2013, he was promoted to Director and he served as Director, Finance and Accounts, National Sports Commission. Between 2015 and 2018, Mr Umakhihe served as Director, Finance and Accounts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He supervised the Finance and Accounts functions of the Headquarters and the Nigerian Diplomatic Missions Overseas.
In May, 2018 he became Director, Finance and Accounts, Ministry of Defence. He held this position till his appointment as Federal Permanent Secretary on 1st December, 2018, and served as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
Mr. Umakhihe attended several management courses both locally and internationally. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria, Chartered Institute of Administrators of Nigeria and Nigerian Institute of Management. He is a part-time Doctoral student of Security and Strategic Studies in the Nassarawa State University, Keffi.
A distinguished alumnus of the University of Benin Alumni Association,he received commendation letter from Owan East Local Education Board for philanthropic support to primary schools in his hometown, Otuo.
Mr. Umakhihe is married with children. His hobbies include farming and watching football matches.
