“CONSIDER MORE CIVIL SERVANTS,”- HoSF CHARGES NISS

The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan said that civil servants being at the forefront of policy making and implementation should be given more consideration as participants of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS).

She averred this during a courtesy visit by Faculty Members and participants of Course 15 of the Institute led by its Director of Research and Library, Dr. A. Abdulkarim Daga, in her Office on Thursday, February 10, 2022, in Abuja.

Dr. Yemi-Esan, who commended the wide-spectrum of this year’s participants, coming from various Agencies of the Federal Government including foreigners, urged the Management of the Institute to ensure that their services benefit for sustainable growth and development, as well as enhanced service delivery to the citizenry.

She further disclosed that the theme for this year’s course, “The Global Climate Challenge: Prospects and Priorities for Economic Development and Conflict Resolution in Africa” is apt considering the numerous incursions into the country by foreigners displaced by climatic changes. 

The HoSF, therefore, urged the Institute to tailor their research, findings and recommendations in sync with the country’s domestic climate changing needs, also our peculiarities before giving consideration to those of developed nations. “This will bring out the uniqueness in us as a country,” she added. While awaiting the report of Course 15, Dr. Yemi-Esan further urged the participants to see the ten-month course in NISS as an opportunity to serve the country better.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation, described the Institute as a research-based, which seeks to find plausible solutions to the myriad of global security challenges and making recommendations via reports to the Federal Government in order to guide policy formulation.

He also explained that the theme for Year 2022, Course 15, which dwells on climate change, involves 76 participants drawn from various Agencies and ECOWAS-member countries of Gambia, Ghana and Niger Republic, aims at fostering inter-agency synergy, international cooperation and impact on the participants the requisite knowledge and skills needed to surmount security challenges in their various agencies, as well as individual countries.

During the duration of the 10- month course, participants will be interrogating on the theme for the year, by embarking on local, regional, continental and international tours-of-duty.
