"ALL WORK AND NO EXERCISE, MAKES A CIVIL SERVANT LESS PRODUCTIVE" - HoSF

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan has emphasised the need for Civil Servants to be mentally and physically sound by exercising regularly, in order to perform, optimally.

Dr. Yemi-Esan stated this, as the Chief Guest Jogger, during an Aerobic Exercise for Civil Servants, marking the 2022 Civil Service Week, organised by the Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA), at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. She was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe on Saturday, June 18, 2022.                                                 

The Head of Service said that continuous participation in and commitment to aerobics and keep fit exercises with create a robust Civil Service, which guarantees effective and efficient service delivery to Nigerians.

She revealed that the aerobics and jogging exercise, which takes place once a month, is designed as a decent and proactive physical and recreational outlet for Public Servants to enhance their mental alertness and physical fitness, adding that sportsmanship will foster team spirit and unity.                "The Monthly Sessions, apart from being a measure of wellness, are aimed at polishing and popularising the good image of the Service."

Dr. Yem-Esan, urged participants to use the channel as a medium to showcase their hidden talents as our contribution towards national sports development, as well as reducing stress amongst all cadres.

Earlier in her Address, the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Ngozi Onwudiwe, represented by a Director, Comfort Adeosun, enjoined Civil Servants to continuously engage in regular exercise for their physical and mental wellbeing, highlighting that the era of high incidence of slumping and dying at the work place due to cardiac arrest occasioned by lack of regular exercise, is over. She praised FEPSGA for a successful, while encouraging them to sustain it.

Delivering a Goodwill Message, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr Magdalene Ajani, advised Civil Servants not to shy away from sporting activities because they aid both physical and mental development, thereby maximising output.

Trophies and Certificates were presented to winners from various teams across the MDAs. The trophy and certificate for 1st position, Best Kitted Team, was won by Federal Ministry of Transportation, the 2nd by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, while the 3rd was won by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation. The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and lnnovation took the first position for Highest Number in Attendance, while the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing came 2nd and Federal Ministry of Transportation, 3rd.                 

Present at the well-attended early morning Ceremony were Permanent Secretaries from the Federal Ministries of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. William Alo, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Mr. Adesola Olusade, Transportation, Dr Magdalene Ajani, Power, Engr. Nebolisa Anaku, Trade and Investment, Dr. Evelyn Ngige and the Director, Overseeing Office of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, as well as thousands of other Civil Servants cutting across MDAs, cadres, ranks.
