AG HCSF REINSTATES COMMITMENT TO CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN SERVICE

The Acting Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan has restated her Office commitment and readiness to actualized capacity development in the most standardized and sustainable manner in the service. Reinstates

In line with this commitment, the OHCSF has resuscitated the Departmental Training Officers (DTO). The Office has also conducted a service wide Training Need Assessment (TNA) which is meant to ascertain knowledge and skill gaps in the Civil Service. The Office equally has designed relevant training contents to fill the gaps in line with the report of the TNA.

The Ag HCSF made this revelation on Monday, 3rd February, 2020 during the opening ceremony of the induction training of newly recruited Officers on GL 07-10 in the Federal Civil Service.

Dr. Yemi Esan emphasized induction training as a globally recognized and most fundamental kind of training every aspiring Officer in any setting must be subjected to, for the acquisition of relevant skills that would enhance job performance.

She therefore reminded the newly recruits of their call to service which is surely demanding. She advised them to be hard working and put in their very best at anything they do maintaining that the journey to the high point of their career has just begun. She said:

It is commonly adduced that there is job security in the Civil Service and as such things can be taken for granted. I wish to warn that attitude to work will only prevent an officer from attaining his or her maximum potentials…my charge to you is to ignore such attitude and work hard, go extra mile, engage in self-development…’

Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani explained that the pilot induction training is part of the implementation of the 2017-2020 Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP - 2020) which was designed for newly recruited Officers on GL. 07 – 10.

She explained that the training which is continuous is targeted at the backlog of Five Thousand (5000) newly recruited officers that are yet to be trained. She expressed optimism on the current training module which is designed to take the service away from what it used to be (theory) to more practical issues where officers are meant to deal more on issues such as report writing, memo writing, minutes and note taking and others.

The training which is expected go round all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The training has 700 participants from different Pilot Ministries.
