The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has rolled out the Structured Mandatory Assessment-Based Training Programme (SMAT-P) for Directorate Level Officers on Salary Grade Levels 15 – 17 in the Federal Civil Service. The Advanced Level SMAT-P, which commenced on Monday, 4th April 2022 at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), is expected to run in six (6) batches of one (1) week duration each and will eventually benefit about 1,800 officers.
Representing the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, the Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office, Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Marcus O. Ogunbiyi, MNSE, disclosed this when he visited the venue of the ongoing training to monitor compliance.
Dr Ogunbiyi informed the participants that the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation accords high priority to training and retraining of staff towards ensuring efficient, as well as effective service delivery geared towards the attainment of national development goals.
The Permanent Secretary said that as the name implies, SMAT-P, is mandatory for all shortlisted officers in the Federal Civil Service, adding that the training is structured to enhance the leadership, general management and strategic communications skills of participants.
SMAT-P is a career development training programme solely designed to equip Civil Servants with appropriate competencies required to do their job and deliver efficient services to the citizenry. The ongoing service-wide training is in line with the capacity building component of the new Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021-2025.
While appreciating the Permanent Secretary for the visit, one of the President of the classes, Director Animal Husbandry Services, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Winnie Ifeoma Lai-Solarin, stated that the programme is a welcome development to improve productivity in the Federal Civil Service. She further thanked the Head of the Federal Civil Service of the Federation for the golden opportunity, ensuring the judicious use of the knowledge acquired.
It is expected that all categories of Federal Civil Servants will undergo at least one training programme within the planned period. The current training exercise is expected to end on Friday, May 13, 2022.
