HEAD OF SERVICE TASKS PERMANENT SECRETARIES ON GOOD GOVERNANCE

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan has urged Permanent Secretaries to accord utmost importance to good governance so as to positively impact the wellbeing of citizens, socio-economic development and stability of the country.

Dr. Yemi-Esan gave the charge in a keynote address delivered at a retreat on "Leading Change and Building Institutional Legacy " held today (Friday 27th August 2021) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to the Head of Service, to survive and thrive in a disruptive era, institutions must not only continuously innovate, it must reengineer with the right leadership so as to be relevant.

The retreat, she added, was being organised among other objectives, " to recalibrate our ability to think strategically, recognize operational potentials and communicate organisational visions leveraging on a top-down methodology. "

"The importance of our gathering can be further appreciated in the light of rapid introduction of mechanisms and structures to attain global best practices in the Civil Service such as service-wide deployment of Standard Operating Procedures and the application of ISO certification among others ", she added.

She harped on the need for culture change and change management as two enablers of the success of reform programmes, adding that in our dynamic operating environment and globalized world, culture change and change management must be prioritized to achieve sustainable high productivity, organisational loyalty and ownership of reforms.

She hoped that the retreat will provide the needed insights to the evolving roles of the Permanent Secretaries as strategic and innovative leaders.
