OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (OHSE)

Introduction

The Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Department was created in the Service Welfare Office in 2017 to drive the implementation of Goal 4 in the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, 2017 – 2020.

Objective:

to promote safe and convenient work environment, wellbeing and provide basic support for Civil Servants”

Functions

i. Co-ordinate and promote a safe and healthy work environment for Civil Servants;

ii. Provide and regulate recreational and other social facilities for Civil Servants;

iii. Promote International best practices in occupational health and safety in the Public Service work environment;

iv. Initiate processes and programme that will promote better work place occupational health and safety for Public Servants in line with extant legislation;

v. Liaise relevant agencies to promote safe work Environment for Public Servants in all MDAs.  

vi. Provide General guidelines for Health Safety and Environment in Public Service

vii. Review all  safety and health policies and procedures in Public Service

viii. Review employee complaints regarding safety and health hazards

ix. Provide secretariat for medical request by MDAs

x. Promote the spirit of sportsmanship and foster unity among Public Servants through the Federation of Public Service Games;

xi. Supervise Public Service Clubs for the benefits Public Servants.

xii. Coordinating the affairs of Persons with Disability (PWDs) Service wide.

Structure

The Department is divided into two Divisions: Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) and Recreation Division, headed by Deputy Directors.
